Historic Limo Tours in Boston: Meet Our Minute Man Tour Guide

We're excited to share info about another "side" of our limousine services: our historic sightseeing tours, which one of our drivers, Scott Trainor, spearheads.

Scott is passionate about American history, specifically New England. An active participant in reenactments since 1996, Scott has turned his passion into a side career. A full-time chauffeur with our company since 2002, Scott came to us a year ago and pitched the idea of offering historic sightseeing tours, complete with him decked out in accurate period dress. We loved the idea, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Scott says the beauty of Accent's sightseeing tours is that he'll customize it to fit customers' specific interests. Unlike the duck tours or the trolley tours in Boston, which follow the same routes day after day, Scott finds out what our customers' interests are...and then crafts the tour from there.

But what if you don't know for sure what you want to do? Is there a "standard" historic tour that Scott will do? The answer is yes.

The Historic Route
Scott Trainor, Accent Limo Sightseeing ToursIf customers want a purely historic tour of Boston, the route will likely start at the waterfront (Rowe's Wharf, Boston Harbor Hotel, and Boston Harbor) along with a description of what the Puritans encountered when they first landed and how Boston evolved into a thriving mercantile hub.

From there, Scott might bring his customers to the North End for some good food and then move on up to Beacon Hill, the State House, Boston Common and the Public Gardens (the oldest in the country) and eventually to Back Bay, Fenway, the South End, the financial district, and finally some shopping at Quincy Market. But again, the tour is customer-driven with an "open" agenda.

Scott says, "For example, we have lots of scientists who are clients, and they often want to see MIT. No problem, I'll say. Let's go to Cambridge. It's up to them to tell us what they're looking to get out of tour. Do they want to shop? We can bring them to Newbury Street. Do they want to eat? We can make reservations. Do they want to see something specific and get out and walk? We can do that, too. We tailor it with their fun and safety in mind."

Even if the customer is interested in touring another historic city or town outside of Boston, like Salem, it's still a go. As Scott says, "This isn't a dry civics lesson. This is meant to be an interactive and fun experience for all who are involved."

The Knowledge
Scott is a lifelong student of American history, beginning with his own (Scott was born in Lynn, but his ancestors landed in Newport, Rhode Island, in 1650). A voracious reader, Scott has pored over the diaries of people like Governors John Winthrop and William Bradford, believing these first-hand accounts provide keen insight into what life was like in colonial America.

The Look & the Customization
For the tours, Scott wears accurate period clothing of the mid 1700s. In other words, his clothes are exactly like the clothes someone from this time would have worn. This makes for a special outing, which can be customized for specific groups, such as:
  • Schools (think field trips on Accent's Motor Coach)
  • Senior centers
  • Rotary clubs
  • And more
